Burn

These pieces from my burn series were made outside and birthed from fire. They were created in a personally connected landscape in the high desert skirted by burnscar. The use of fire is a central component because it contributes to regeneration and symbolically embodies transformation and strength for women. Fire also represents resilience as it leads to regrowth and moving forward despite uninvited happenings and identitites.

In the creation of this work a ritual developed involving acts of patience, destruction, movement, and adornment–each sowing the way to healing. The organic shapes resemble body parts and represent regeneration from my journey of personal reflection and acceptance. My hope is that the viewer can reflect upon the rituals, nature, memories, and people that help them heal and feel grounded while seeing these pieces as artifacts resulting from a woman’s journey towards creative sustenance and understanding.  Selected images from this series is below.
