Artist Statement
My work investigates the memories and experiences that make us who we are. For me, it's swimming in the Delaware river and walking paths adorned with lichen covered rocks. Narratives about my great great grandma sewing late into the night to make ends meet. The taste of pickled herring transporting me, sitting quietly under the limited palette of evening. The influences from decades spent travelling abroad for my livelihood. Each of these experiences acts as an element that materializes in my art either intentionally or intuitively.
The paper, water-based media, fiber, and mark making I use are homage to feminine craft, family history, and nature. These materials ground my practice yet their fluidness soften the tensions created from looking back and moving forward. They are conduits to visually explore and understand lived experience and rootedness.
