Artist Statement
My studio practice includes watercolor paper that moves like fabric when submerged in water and translucent rice paper mounted to wood. I work with paper as it soaks up life, reminds me of being a child drawing on construction paper, and the stories of my great grandma sewing textiles that flowed from her lap under a dangling light bulb. I use ink to capture the flow of water and then organize these blotches with a language of mark making. These marks or “doodles” are a translation and homage to movement and nature. A way to make sense of this sometimes messy, beautiful life.
