Mandy Hansen
Artist Statement
Mandy grew up in a land cut wide by the Delaware River and speckled with honeymoon resorts featuring heart-shaped tubs and champagne glass jacuzzis. This landscape influenced her daydreaming and romance with nature.
Mandy's artwork marries landscape and wonder. She often collaborates with natural elements capturing a lapping river wave to mark an exposing image or using drops of water to shape and move a medium on canvas. Other times her technique revels in daydreams and honors emerging figures that appear.
She utilizes familiar materials like paper, canvas, and paint and manipulates components with new and surprising results. For Mandy, making art is a chance with natural phenomena. A chance to fail, flourish, and always find. It is a process to explore shapes, honor what emerges, pay homage to nature, and intentionally embrace and search for wonder.
